Privacy Policy

Last updated 20 October 2026 · Version 2026-10-20

Startup Recruits ("we", "us") connects students, including international students, with startups offering internships. This policy explains what personal information we collect through startuprecruits.com, how we use and store it, and your rights under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).

What we collect

We only collect information you choose to give us through our website forms:

  • Contact form: your name, email address and message.
  • Student application: your full name, email address, level of study, degree and majors, when you expect to finish your course, your work rights answers (domestic or international, and visa details), LinkedIn profile (optional), areas you're interested in, and your resume (PDF).
  • Startup role listing: your name, email address, startup name, website or LinkedIn (optional), and details of the internship (role title, area, tasks, hours, work style, whether it's paid, ideal start date, number of interns) and your acknowledgement of international students' work-hour limits.

When you submit a form we also record the date and time, the page you submitted from, your browser's user-agent and a one-way hashed (not readable) version of your IP address, to help prevent spam and misuse.

Our website also uses Google Analytics cookies to understand how visitors use the site (for example, which pages are viewed). This information is aggregated and isn't used to identify you.

We don't ask for sensitive information (such as health, racial or ethnic origin, or religious beliefs). Please don't include it in your resume or messages. You can contact us without giving your name by emailing us, but we can't process an application anonymously.

How we use it

  • To reply to your enquiries.
  • Students: to match you with suitable internships, show you relevant internship listings and share your profile and resume with startups that have a suitable role.
  • Startups: to review your role, list it for students, and share the role details (including your startup's name) with students whose skills and hours fit.
  • To run, secure and improve our service, and to keep records of submissions.
  • Building our marketplace: we plan to develop Startup Recruits into an online two-sided marketplace where student profiles are visible to startups and role listings are visible to students. Information you give us now may be used for that platform. We'll tell you before your information becomes visible in a new way, and you can ask us not to include you.

We won't sell your personal information, and we don't use it for unrelated marketing.

Who we share it with

  • Startups and students, as described above, for internship matching.
  • Service providers who host and process data for us:
    • Cloud hosting providers store form submissions and resumes securely in private, access-controlled storage.
    • Website hosting and email service providers host our website and deliver notification emails about form submissions to our team's mailbox.
  • Authorities, where required or authorised by law.

We use reputable cloud hosting and email service providers. Your information is stored with providers in Australia or in other countries with appropriate safeguards, and some providers may store or process data outside Australia. Where that happens, we take reasonable steps to make sure it's protected consistently with the APPs.

How we keep it safe

Submissions and resumes are stored in private cloud storage that isn't publicly accessible, using encrypted connections and access limited to authorised people and systems. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information from misuse, loss and unauthorised access.

How long we keep it

We keep your information for as long as we need it to provide our service, generally up to 2 years after your last interaction with us, unless you ask us to delete it sooner or we're required by law to keep it longer. We then delete or de-identify it.

Access, correction and deletion

You can ask to access, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you by emailing allura@startuprecruits.com. We'll respond within 30 days. We may need to confirm your identity first.

Complaints

If you have a concern about how we've handled your personal information, please email allura@startuprecruits.com and we'll respond within 30 days. If you're not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version will always be on this page, with the date it was last updated.
